However, Little Rock’s attractions are spread across several neighbourhoods, so choosing the right transportation can make your visit more enjoyable.
Flying to Little Rock
Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is the city’s main passenger airport.
Located approximately five miles east of downtown, it offers domestic flight connections to several major American cities.
International visitors can reach Little Rock through connecting flights at larger airports.
From the airport, you can travel to your accommodation by taxi, rideshare service or rental car.
Travelling by Car
Little Rock is located at the intersection of several important highways.
Interstate 40 connects the city with Memphis to the east and Fort Smith to the west.
Interstate 30 provides connections towards Dallas and other destinations in Texas.
Interstate 430 and Interstate 630 offer additional routes around and through the metropolitan area.
Driving from Memphis to Little Rock generally takes around two hours, depending on traffic conditions.
Travelling by Train
Amtrak’s Texas Eagle provides passenger rail service through Little Rock, connecting the city with destinations including Chicago, St. Louis and Dallas.
The train stops at Little Rock Union Station.
Services and arrival times should be checked in advance, particularly if you are planning to continue your journey using public transportation.
Getting Around Little Rock
Rock Region METRO operates local bus services and a streetcar connecting selected destinations in Little Rock and North Little Rock.
The streetcar serves parts of downtown, the River Market District and the Argenta area.
Walking is a pleasant way to explore the central riverfront, although distances between attractions can be considerable.
Do You Need a Car?
If you are mainly staying downtown and visiting attractions along the riverfront, you may be able to explore parts of Little Rock without renting a car.
However, a rental car is useful if you want to visit Pinnacle Mountain State Park, explore attractions outside downtown or continue your journey through Arkansas.
Plan Your Little Rock Visit
For a first visit, I recommend spending at least two or three days in Little Rock.
Begin with the city’s historical attractions, explore the River Market District and enjoy a walk along the Arkansas River.
If you have additional time, consider visiting Pinnacle Mountain State Park or exploring other destinations in central Arkansas.
Little Rock is an excellent starting point for discovering the history, culture and natural beauty of Arkansas.
